Self Portrait Drawing

I made this piece to show my knowledge of using the basics of portraiture and transforming them into a detailed portrait. The skills I used for this piece include proportion, background, value scale, and shadows/ detail. Proportion was a very important skill for this piece because it sets the size, shape and wether you face is going to look normal or if it is going to look like a puddle of facial features. For background I used a shaded background to make the person stand out more. Value scale was very important because all of the shading done on the face was done using the value scale. Between all of the curves that go back and other features like your nose that come forward the full 1 - 10 scale has to be used to give the face depth and make it look realistic which is where shadows/detail comes into the drawing. Lastly one thing I learned from this piece was that portraits are not easy and you have to have your proportions right or your whole portrait will be wrong and that shading and showing depth makes your face look realistic and more detailed.
