Gray Paper Drawing

IMG_20190605_101943.jpg

I made this piece to show my understanding of using white and black charcoal pencils on gray paper. While working on this piece I used the different types of lines which are thick, thin, dark, light. I used these different lines to show different details on the fish. Another thing I used was value scale. I used the full value scale from 1- 10 with 1 being the bright whites in the lower body to the 10 being the black reflective eye. I also showed how to shade using the two different pencils and using the color of the paper when shading. Another tool I used was the grid. The grid was very important in the process of this drawing because it helped me make sure the details on the fish were to perspective and in the right spot on the fish. Using the grid helped me outline the major details in the fish so that I was not just eyeballing it and so they could be precise. One thing I earned from this piece was that when using paper that has a shade of a color to it you want to use the shade of the paper to your advantage when blending and shading shadows.
